ALCHEMY

Artist Statement
Alchemy is a body of work that explores the transformative power of medication, both physically and psychologically. Drawing on my personal experiences with chronic illness and medication, I create pill sculptures and paintings that blur the boundaries between art and science, between the organic and the synthetic.
My sculptures are made from a variety of pills and capsules, carefully arranged and glued together to form intricate structures that suggest the complexity and fragility of the human body. The pills themselves become objects of contemplation, transformed from their clinical context into symbols of hope and healing.
In my paintings, I use vivid colours and bold brushstrokes to capture the energetic and emotional qualities of medication. I often incorporate text and collage elements, such as prescription labels and medical diagrams, to create a layered, multidimensional composition that reflects the complexity of the human experience.
Through my work, I seek to challenge the stigma around medication and chronic illness, and to celebrate the transformative power of modern medicine. By exploring the alchemical properties of medication, I aim to inspire a sense of wonder and curiosity about the human body and its potential for transformation.
Alchemy is not just about the chemical transformation of matter, but also about the psychological transformation that occurs when we confront our own limitations and vulnerabilities. My work invites viewers to engage with the complexities of the human condition, and to embrace the alchemical potential within us all.
