New York Art Week
VOLTA - 5-8 September 2024
Group Presentation, FIN Gallery, Melbourne

FIN Gallery is proud to present a cross-generational dialogue at New York Art Week 2024, showcasing the works of Czech painter Ester Parásková, and Australian artists Catherine Coady and Celeste Mountjoy. Each artist—emerging from a different generation and cultural background—offers a distinct perspective on contemporary life, creating a layered exhibition that explores identity, emotion, and social commentary through a variety of mediums.

Ester Parásková, based in Prague, brings a mature, painterly sensibility to the exhibition. Her large-scale canvases fuse gestural abstraction with detailed figuration, expressing a dynamic interplay between control and spontaneity. Her work reflects a deeply personal yet universally resonant approach to the complexities of human experience.

Catherine Coady, a mid-career multidisciplinary artist from Melbourne, works across sculpture and painting to examine modern obsessions—youth, image, and vulnerability. Her clinical aesthetic and precise material choices frame a critical lens on self-perception in today’s hyper-mediated world.

Representing the youngest voice in the trio, Celeste Mountjoy—widely known by her pseudonym Filthyratbag—offers raw, satirical illustrations that tackle everything from mental health and feminism to grief, addiction, and societal pressure. Her work resonates powerfully with a new generation, blending humor and honesty in a distinctive visual language.

Together, these three artists form a compelling intergenerational conversation, highlighting the evolving concerns, expressions, and visual vocabularies shaping the contemporary art landscape.
